Welcome back to the second half of the 2016-2017 school year! We are looking forward to another packed semester here at CMS. The school counselors are busy conducting classroom lessons about transitioning to high school, test taking skills, and course registration for next year. We have also adjusted our caseload to reflect grade levels, not alphabet. So, Ms. Hayek (email@example.com) is now the 6th grade counselor, Mr. Parker (firstname.lastname@example.org) is now the 7th grader counselor, and Dr. Burruss (email@example.com) is now the 8th grade counselor. We can all be reached at 804-633-6561 if you need to contact us. We are happy to assist you.
Another great week at CMS has come and gone! We were thrilled with the attendance at our Curriculum Night on September 15. The CMS School Counseling Dept. had a chance to present to parents and talk about the importance of Family Engagement/Parental Involvement. Here are some things we discussed that parents can do:
*Ask for assistance
*Make sure your child is attending regularly
*Check your child’s attire before leaving for school
*Go through your child’s book bag—help them stay organized
*Encourage them to use their agenda books
*Look for any changes in behavior (more or less sleep, drop in grades, change in interest in school, etc)
*Help your child stay on a routine
Thank you to all the parents and students that attended!
